A mandatory evacuation has been lifted for the area surrounding Fairfield Avenue in Stamford due to an overturned truck hauling extremely hazardous materials.
The evacuation was lifted around 12:45 p.m., but "Fairfield Avenue will remain closed for several more hours for final cleanup," according to the mayor’s office.
The hazardous material, identified as methyl methacrylate monomer that is used in the manufacture of resins and plastics, did not leak as officials worked to remove the truck that flipped while trying to make a U-turn in a parking lot, fire officials said.
The truck flipped onto its side around 8:30 a.m. Monday at 391 Fairfield Ave., officials said.
